God has chosen those who are Poor
by Rowena George
We can easily fall into unacceptable ways of thinking about people by adopting bad examples displayed in the world around us.
Those set by social media perhaps or by our past experiences. Our own limited perception of what is good or acceptable behaviour comes into play instead of thinking more deeply about God’s standards.
Since I became a follower of Jesus I have radically changed my behaviour towards others - on public transport, in the supermarket, on the street. Those who are younger, older, different to me, richer than me or poorer than me.
This is because we are all children of God.
Jesus says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you...”
The next time you encounter someone who you may not ordinarily speak to or give over your time to, why not challenge yourself to genuinely engage with them.
I have found this to be both enlightening and rewarding. We can learn so much about the heart of Jesus by doing this.
We are able to grow in compassion for those who are suffering or mourning or hungry.
For those people who are materially poor or for those who are poor in spirit.
Lord Jesus,
We are all poor without your love, compassion and forgiveness. Please help me today - to listen to other people who might need your light to shine into their lives - especially as they navigate the mundane and everyday places, with faith as small as a mustard seed.
Amen.
