The buzz of Christmas has just about faded from everyone's socials, the faint tune of carols humming in the back of your mind…
Then BOOM…Eggs and bunnies everywhere.
The 6th January rolls around and shops panic, like we’re somehow going to forget that we need to go back to the shops and never set foot in there ever. Again.
Unless we’re bombarded with a variety of tiny chicks and wicker baskets!
But then… where's lent? What's lent?
Or more importantly… Why should I care?
There's already enough competing for my attention, not to mention the obnoxious pink and yellow rabbit, staring down the aisle, every time I grab some milk!
Let alone some ancient practice, based on wandering in the desert and shaming people about eating chocolate?
Maybe that's it. That's how we win.
Don’t buy the chocolate.
Don’t give into the sickly sweet tactics their happy fields of deceit and fluffy animals of deception!
Think Bleak. Miserable. Grey.
Okay but seriously, lent isn’t about guilt. It's not about shame.
Lent is about strength.
Strengthening ourselves, fortifying our strongholds. Lent is about staring down the barrel and calling its bluff...but how?
Well I'm not entirely sure of any absolute method, but across the next few weeks we’ll be offering some thoughts on some key areas that often can fly under the radar in our lives.
Starting on Monday, we’ll be sharing a reflection each day. Looking at a topic, looking at the bible and thinking about what that means for our lives now.
To shine a light on our own attitudes, To help build the foundations of our relationship with God.
